valentines... an insight

piolo pascual, clear, valentines, black valentines poster, clear black valentines posterValentines? Oh it just skipped.

Am I an Islam? No. I'm a Catholic. But why did valentines just passed over? I just don't have a single clue.

Pondering over the years this season had passed, I think I'm not used to celebrating it, not for lack of romance, but for lack of knowledge to it. With all honesty, I do admit that, I really don't have any idea why this season is ever celebrated. To whom do catholics tribute their praises with in this season? Who, if ever there was, the patron saint of this season and why was this old tradition patterned on that saint?

I know answers to those questions were a few clicks aways - consult wikipedia, or other encyclopedias. But with all honesty and without looking to encyclopedias, do you have any slight idea why people celebrate valentines?

Yeah, call me bitter or any other terms you like, but I think the reason behind commemorating such annual event should be first instilled in people's mind prior imbuing commercialism on it.

Looking through the past hours that had slipped through, nothing, not even a concise information about valentines was shared through to public television. What was more blatant was the fact that indeed this season was commercialized! Flower vendors, prices, of flowers slowly going up, motel and hotel accommodations, etcetera, etcetera, these is what the news was all about! A hard evidence that commercialism took its lead role on public information dissemination, rather than what was informative. At times, I would rather just grab a book and read it, rather than watch news, because the latter seems uninformative, the way that it should be otherwise.

Anyway, I think I had spared my thoughts and that I seem to be harsh on what I said, so I do apologize for ruining your elated and blissful view on the said season. But do remember that every single thing here on earth had a viable reason to stick to. Hence, if a bouquet of flowers arrived at your doorsteps, think hard, were this flowers given because of an intense overwhelming emotions from the sender, was it given because it was obliged by the "screwed" norms, or was it given because it was what the television shows suggests to its ever loyal viewers - pure commercialism?
